Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is an intervention protocol developed specifically for use in the face of traumatic events.  It is designed to help lessen the long term impact of severe trauma on military and first responders.  Having a solid CISM program in place in service departments, hospitals, etc. and erasing the stigma associated with seeking support is paramount to the well being of our first responders.  Yes, they signed up to deal with the most traumatic of incidents but they're still human under that uniform.
