Developmentally, children do not have the ability to verbally express their feelings in the same way as adults. Instead, children express themselves through their play. Their toys become their words and their play becomes a safe venue in which to address concerns and struggles that may be bigger than their vocabulary. Play also becomes the perfect way to practice new behaviors, coping strategies and to explore new thought patterns.
Parents are regularly updated on their child's progress within play therapy sessions and are invaluable partners during the time between sessions.
